Taught in collaboration with Content Alchemist Emily Stone (Hunter College, Saint Ann’s), this methodic ten-week course will examine various plot forms and apply them to the book you’ve wanted to write forever. We’ll unpack Aristotle’s beginning, middle and end, review conflict, setting and character, Scene + Sequel, how to plot a thriller + mystery, how to build an outline, the importance of a midpoint, the resolution solution and more. On Mondays Emily will lecture for an hour, and on Wednesdays Molly Rosen will lead a three-hour writing workshop based on the earlier week’s ideas. Whether embarking on a new project, or reworking a prior draft that has stalled, you will discover the magical freedom and joy of structure. Love it or hate it, STRUCTURE is the key to suspense. Structure, AKA plot, is how you turn a well-written book with beautiful sentences into a total page-turner that people will stay up all night reading. For all the dreamers and poets and language lovers desperate for creative boundaries to expedite their writing process with the goal of publication. It's a journey!
